A leading eCommerce company based in Central London are looking for a Software Engineering Manager build and lead a team of Python Developers to productionise Data Science solutions for their online platform. You will be working alongside a team of 20 strong data scientists doing cutting-edge machine learning and deep learning algorithmic work to help them build solutions that are scalable, easily-integrated, and highly performant to add maximum value to the business. This is a great opportunity to lead the a business area, whilst remaining hands-on in a tech driven and rapidly growing environment.


You will be working with Python as your core programming language and the following tech is currently in use. That is not to say you can't bring other technologies in, as you will be welcome to do so.

Libraries: Scikit-learn, NumPy, pyStan, Tensorflow

Database/ Data Ingestion Technology: Postgres, MSSQL, Hive, Impala, Hadoop, ElasticSearch, MongoDB, Celery, RabbitMQ, Airflow, SqlAlchemy

Additional Tools: Docker, Flask, Behave, Pytest, Ansible

YOUR ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Python Software Engineering Manager - Data Science

As Python Software Engineering Manager in the Data Science Team, you will

  • Grow and manage a small team of Python Developers (around 5)
  • You will design and develop scalable and performance oriented services with strong emphasis in algorithmic design and scalability
  • You will work with the Big Data team developing and maintaining large-scale Data Science services.
  • Work with Data Science and Big Data Engineering teams to ensure that highly performing data science tools are delivered effectively


To be successful in this Python Software Development Manager role, you will need:

  • Excellent Python skills using its backend frameworks (e.g. Flask and Django)
  • Excellent understanding of developing high-quality software and code, in a highly Agile environment
  • Good experience managing teams and leading projects
  • Strong experience in a high-volume data environment
  • Great commercial, communication, and influencing skills
  • A strong academic background in Computer Science, Physics or Mathematics
  • Ideally experience working with Data Scientists or in a complex algorithmic environment
