Reporting to the Technical Support Lead, the Data Analytics Engineer will be responsible for the specification, building and maintenance of our data engineering platforms. This includes the integration and management of the various data sources that feed into our existing warehouse solution as well as availability of data to visualisation platforms for pre-defined or self-service BI reporting.
To work closely with key business users and IT colleagues to provide a high-quality data engineering solution, in addition provisioning SME best practice guidance across the domain.
Close liaison with IT Extended Leadership team and business sponsors within each of McLaren’s businesses, IT SME’s and domain functional experts across the company.
Works with suppliers, project managers, technical architects and technical delivery teams to specify, build, and maintain data engineering platforms for Business Intelligence and Analytics.
Works with data scientists, domain functional experts and business stakeholders to catalogue, explore, enable access to, prepare, and visualize internal and external data sources.
Provide functional expertise, guidance, presentations, and leadership on leveraging the capabilities of data engineering platforms to business stakeholders
Act as principal liaison between business key users and the CoE for investigating, analysing, and implementing data warehouse (this includes documenting and mapping business requirements, analysing processes and developing the necessary system modifications to satisfy business needs)
Produce end-to-end solutions for new and existing projects
Deliver configuration enhancements from concept to solution (change requests)
Manage complex incident resolution (root-cause analysis, problem statements)
Provide excellent responsiveness for level 2 and 3 business support requests
Run proof of concepts and investigate opportunities for use of innovative cloud solutions
Assists in the definition of the data engineering strategy, solutions and roadmaps, ensuring they meet McLaren business requirements and performance goals in line with McLaren Technology Group IT strategy.
Responsible for ensuring the production services are optimally configured and aligned to best practices to protect production data.
Leading the development of data consumption and data storage platforms (e.g. Azure Data Factory, SQL, NoSQL, Data Warehouse, Data Lake, Hadoop etc)
Leading the development of data manipulation services (e.g. machine learning, stored procedures, USQL, TSQL, ETL, scripting (Python or R) etc)
Leading the development of cloud services to orchestrate events and data flow (e.g. Lambda, LogicApps, Flow, Event Hubs, Stream Analytics etc)
Creation of reports and dashboards on behalf of IT and in conjunction with business stakeholders.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
Proven production experience working in an Azure Data Factory environment
Best practice and knowledge of capabilities around Azure Data Factory
Best practice principles behind taking various data sources (such as SAP) and loading into warehouse with associated data transformation to present to Power BI platform
Designing solutions around re-usability and for ad-hoc reporting usage. Thanking about future and cross functional use rather than a report silo
Hands on usage of linked services, datasets and pipelines within Azure environment
Knowledge of multi-tier, high availability, cloud and on premise data engineering solutions in a complex multi-cloud, multi-site enterprise environment
Knowledge of cloud platforms, features, and capabilities with previous experience of integrating cloud services to work with on premise data sources and clients.
Strong SQL and tSQL knowledge to include common table expressions
Strong JSON expertise
Proven knowledge and experience of using star and snowflake schemas
Previous experience of creating dashboards and data visualization elements within a Power BI or Business Objects front end
Can develop functional specifications for business requirements
Proven experience working with offshore teams to utilize resources to meet deliverables
Demonstrable experience of ETL technologies
