Capita Group Plc is the UK's leading provider of business process outsourcing and professional services. We currently require a Business Intelligence Developer for a 6 month contract offering up to £440 a day.

Capita is currently running a Business Intelligence service as part of an innovative Strategic Partnership with an NHS community provider organisation in London.  The Partnership delivers a range of core support services on behalf of the Trust, including HR, Estates & Facilities, IM&T and Finance.  The essential corporate services support delivered by Capita help to protect investment in frontline services and allow clinical teams to focus on providing the best possible care for patients.

A programme is underway to develop a new data warehouse to support the Business Intelligence service which is required to be in place by June 2018 and this role will be focused on working as part of a development team to design and build the new data warehouse and migrate BI reporting to it.

The Senior Analyst-Developer will be part of the development team for the new data warehouse, working to the Design Authority Lead to design, develop, test and document the new data warehouse solution as well as specify and develop the report outputs that the service is contracted to deliver. 

Primary Skills (Developer):


SQL 2012 or later experience preferred. The candidate must have experience of the following SQL Microsoft SQL Business Intelligence components:


SQL Server (using MS Visual Studio to develop database solutions)

SQL Server Integration Services

SQL Analysis Services

SQL Reporting Services

Knowledge of NHS clinical systems is essential. SystmOne is essential and either EMIS or RiO would be an advantage   



Secondary Skills (Analyst):


Strong understanding of Microsoft Business Intelligence Tools

Good numerical skills and understanding of statistic is essential

Experience of creating reports and delivering ad hoc analytics with the use of Microsoft Analysis Services

Good understanding of modern data warehouse designs including understanding of key concepts like dimension, measure, fact

Working knowledge of T-SQL to query databases and ability to utilise it as part of ad hoc reporting, data discover and data quality assurance processes.

Working knowledge of DATIX is desirable as is experience of building and extending data models.  

Working knowledge of QlikView would be an advantage in particular, though experience of other BI Presentation tools will also be helpful

Experience in business intelligence, during which both professional and management capabilities.

Demonstrable experience in healthcare analytics would be a significant advantage.

Knowledge and understanding of NHS mandatory reporting requirements and NHS datasets would be a significant advantage. 



Main Duties & Responsibilities:


Work with the BAU BI Service and Trust SME’s to review existing report outputs and analyse how they are derived and produced

Develop specifications for each report output outlining the technical requirements and presentation/usability requirements

Develop design documentation including ETL design and Data Model conceptual designs, in consultation with the design authority lead.

Technical development of the report outputs in line with agreed design.

Unit, regression and SIT testing of report outputs, including documenting outcomes and differences between new and legacy reports

Complete any defect fixes and update any design documentation accordingly

Work alongside BAU Business Intelligence staff to provide knowledge transfer so that they can produce the reports in operation.

Once signed off by end-users, migrate developments into the production environment

Provide adhoc support to the BI service to run the reports in production, fix defects and achieve sign-off
